Mechanical Engineer
Location: Santa Clara, CA (approx 50% onsite)
Duration: 6 months, extendable
This position will be a part of the team building the next generation in DNA sequencers. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with the Equipment/Component engineering teams to design/develop fixtures and consumable device (CD) components. Duties include working closely with internal engineering teams for fixture design, component inspections, equipment/tooling process evaluation, and collect/summarize process data and writing SOP’s.
R esponsibilities:
- Involvement in tooling/fixture design for prototyping and commercialize process/equipment
- Hands-on utilization of metrology equipment to inspect/measure CD components, process tooling and fixtures
- Involvement in yield improvement projects, test method development, and other quality improvement initiatives
- Generate documentation and process specifications
MUST-HAVE Qualifications:
- BS Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent industry experience
- Prefer 1-5 years experience in Mechanical Engineering
- Good communication and writing skills
- Proficient with Solid Works and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
- Able to understand and generate P&ID, pneumatic and fluidic diagram
- Excellent interpersonal skills both within the organization and with external parties
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in metrology inspection and measurement is required
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) using statistical software such as JMP
- Knowledge of Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) or other risk management tools to identify design and process risks towards proper mitigations
- Personal flexibility is necessary to ensure efficient execution of the plan and teamwork
BG Good-to-Have skills:
- Experience in medical instrumentation
- Experience with programming languages such as python, R, Matlab highly preferred
- Basic electronic knowledge to install and troubleshoot, optical and prox sensors, solenoid valve, pressure transducers, electric switches, etc. is highly desirable
- Knowledge of automated measurement and inspection systems
- Experience with basic controller programming such as Arduino or PLC
- Knowledgeable of ISO 13485 standards and FDA regulations such as Title 21 CFR Parts 800-1299
